
Cristian Fernandez Undergoes Hand Surgery

Washington, D.C. (February 17, 2014) - D.C. United today announced that defender Cristian Fernandez has undergone surgery on his right hand. He fractured his second metacarpal in his right hand while training in Bradenton, Fla. The procedure was performed by Dr. Ken Fine and hand specialist Dr. Sunjay Berdia of The Orthopedic Center in Washington, D.C. He is expected to return back to training in one week.
Fernandez, a product of Racing de Santander's youth system, signed with the Black-and-Red on Feb. 7, after transferring from Union Deportiva Almeria of the Spanish La Liga. The defender began his professional career in 2007 with Racing before joining Almeria in 2012. During the last two seasons with Almeria, he appeared in 36 games and recorded six goals.
