Rockford Lightning News Release

Rockford (1/23/03)- A day after setting a franchise passing record, Joe Crispin has decided an offer to play overseas is just too good to pass up. The 6'0" guard signs a contract to play with a professional team in Athens, Greece.

"What makes this decision so difficult is the bond that my wife Erin and I have felt with the Rockford community," said Crispin, "We have met a lot of special people in our short time here and I am proud of the play of our team on the court and the friendships we made off the court. It's just a situation that the guaranteed money offered in Greece is just too hard to pass up. If it was just a couple dollars here or there, I would not be making this move, but this is more than just a couple dollars."

Crispin scored 27 points and set a Lightning franchise record with 24 assists in the Lightning's 152-150 overtime win over the Idaho Stampede on Wednesday. Crispin also has the Lightning's highest single-game point total of the season when he scored 44 in Rockford's 159-112 win over Gary on January 16th.

Crispin has started just one game for the Lightning this season but he still ranks 3rd on the team and 13th in the league with a 17.4 point scoring average. Crispin also ranks 3rd in the CBA in assists (6.8 per game), tied for 1st in Free Throw Percentage (89.3%), and 7th in 3 point field goal percentage (43.2%).

Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo says he hopes to have the roster spot vacated by Crispin filled within the next day or two.
