Columbus Crew SC News Release

COLUMBUS - With just four games left in the 2011 regular season, the Crew opens a two-game week vs. Sporting Kansas City at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 8:30 p.m. (ET). The two teams are currently tied for second place in the Eastern Conference with 41 points, just one behind Houston, and the important match will be the Black & Gold's first ever at the heralded new venue. The Crew then returns home for its regular-season home finale vs. D.C. United on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 4 p.m.

Both matches will be televised live regionally on ONN, with Dwight Burgess and Duncan Oughton calling all the action, and Sunday's will also be available in high definition exclusively to Time Warner Cable Mid-Ohio customers in Columbus on Ch. 1311. Both can also be heard on the radio, in English on News/Talk 610 WTVN, and in Spanish on La Mega 103.1-FM, with Neil Sika and Carlos Cordova handling play-by-play duties, respectively.

The Black & Gold (11-11-8, 41 pts.) is looking to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to the LA Galaxy before a sellout crowd of 21,203 last Saturday (Sept. 24) and regain its hold on first place.

Sporting KC (10-9-11, 41 pts.) is coming off a 1-1 draw with the Philadelphia Union last Friday (Sept. 23) at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. Kansas City is led by Mexican international Omar Bravo, who has nine goals on the season, followed closely by former Crew forward Kei Kamara with eight. Midfielder Graham Zusi leads KC in assists with six.

It will be the second and final meeting of the season between the two teams, with the Crew having topped SKC, 1-0, at Crew stadium on April 16, with a goal from Robbie Rogers.

D.C. United (9-8-11, 38 pts.) enters the week sixth in the bunched-up Eastern Conference, but it has played at least one fewer game than everyone else (28). It travels to Philadelphia on Thursday (Sept. 29) for another key Eastern Conference battle in advance of Sunday's showdown.

D.C. is led by reigning MLS Player of the Week Dwayne DeRosario, who has a league-leading 13 goals and 11 assists on the season (10 and 6 since being traded to United), while Charlie Davies has tallied 11 goals in his comeback campaign. The two teams opened the 2011 season against each other on March 19, with D.C. claiming a 3-1 victory at RFK Stadium.

A bye weekend will follow, in observance of FIFA international dates, and the Crew will return to action on Oct. 15 at Gillette Stadium against the New England Revolution at 7:30 p.m. Crew midfielder Emmanuel Ekpo (Nigeria) and defender Julius James (Trinidad & Tobago) have earned callups to their respective national teams for their upcoming action.
