Crew heads to Giants Stadium to take on the MetroStars on Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Monday, June 13) — The Crew (4-6-1, 13 pts.) heads to the Meadowlands this weekend to take on the MetroStars (4-3-5, 17 pts.) on Saturday, June 18, at 7:30 p.m. at Giants Stadium.

The Crew downed the Colorado Rapids 1-0 last Saturday at Crew Stadium, while the MetroStars played to a 0-0 tie at home last Saturday vs. D.C. United.

Saturday's game in the Meadowlands can be heard in English on 103.9, TED-FM. The game can also be heard in English on TheCrew.com and MLSNet.com.

After Saturday's game against the MetroStars, The Crew will return home on Wednesday, June 22, at 7:30 p.m. to face New England in the first Johnsonville Buck-A-Brat night of the year.

BUFFALO WILD WINGS SET FOR CREW AWAY GAME VIEWING PARTY ON SATURDAY NIGHT

Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar on Bethel Road, the "Official Away Game Headquarters" for all Crew road games, will host a viewing party on Saturday night, June 18, at 7:30 p.m. for The Crew's game against the MetroStars. Saturday's game is not televised locally and can only be seen on the MLS Direct Kick package. Buffalo Wild Wings is located on 5240 Bethel Centre Mall.

CREW RESERVES LOSE FOR THE FIRST TIME, TAKES ON THE METROSTARS RESERVES ON SUNDAY

The Crew Reserves lost for the first time this year last Saturday, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Colorado Reserves at Crew Stadium. The Crew reserves are 3-1-1 on the year and take on the MetroStars on Sunday, June 19, on the road. The complete reserve schedule is: at Colorado (April 24, W 1-0), vs. Chicago (May 1, T 3-3), vs. RSL (May 22, W 5-2), vs. MetroStars (May 29, W 1-0), vs. Colorado (June 11, L 2-1), at MetroStars (June 19, 10 a.m.), vs. D.C. SZETELA AND U.S. U-20 NATIONAL TEAM START WORLD YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP OFF WITH A BANG

Crew midfielder Danny Szetela and the United States Under-20 Men's National Team started off its 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship with a bang last Saturday, defeating World power Argentina 1-0. Szetela came on as a substitute in the 85th minute. The tournament is being played in Holland and runs from June 10-July 2.

The U.S. Under-20s now face group leader Germany tomorrow (June 14 - 8:30 p.m. local time/ 2:30 p.m. ET) and then conclude group play on June 18 (1:30 p.m. local time/ 7:30 a.m. ET) against Egypt. Tomorrow's game is televised on Fox Soccer Channel. The U.S. will play all three of its first round games at the 13,500-seat Arke Stadium in Enschede, Holland. Szetela will be gone at least through June 18 and will return after the U.S. completes its tournament. Crew assistant coach Mike Lapper is also assisting the U.S. Team.

GALLARDO AND PANAMA LOSE THEIR FIRST GAME IN WORLD YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Crew's Luis Gallardo and his Under-20 Panamanian National Team lost 3-1 to Ukraine in its opening game of the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship on Saturday, June 11. Gallardo played the full 90 minutes for Panama. The tournament is being held in Holland from June 10-July 2. Like Szetela, Gallardo will be gone at least through June 17 and will return after Panama completes its tournament. Panama will face Turkey tomorrow (June 14) and China (Friday, June 17) in group play.

CREW TO PARTICIPATE IN PREMIER SOCCER ACADEMIES FOUNDERS' EVENT THIS FRIDAY

Crew GM Mark McCullers announced that The Crew has partnered with former Crew great and current English Premier League star Brad Friedel for the Premier Soccer Academies (PSA) Founders' event on Friday, June 17, in suburban Cleveland. Crew players from the past and present will play a match against a team of current, former and future international stars at 6 p.m. at Bay High School Stadium (29230 Wolf Road) in Bay Village, Ohio. Immediately following the match, there will be a dinner and auction held at the Five Seasons Athletic Club in nearby Westlake, Ohio. The match, dinner and auction are scholarship fundraisers for the Premier Soccer Academies, which is a non-profit [501(c)(3)] organization. Friedel, a Bay High alumnus, is the co-founder of PSA, along with former U.S. National Team star Desmond Armstrong and former English Premier League veteran Barry Venison. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased on-line at premiersocceradacemies.org. Tickets can also be bought at Bay High School Stadium, which holds 3,500, on the day of the game. Group pricing is also available. Dinner and auction tickets are $100 or $750 for a table of eight and must be bought prior to the event on-line at premiersocceracademies.org. Players expected to play for the International Team include English great Andy Cole, as well as Desmond Armstrong (U.S.), Dario Brose (U.S.), Pete Enklemen (Finland), Derek Fazackerley (England), Mark Hottiger (Switzerland), Mike Lane (England), Scott Sellars (England), Craig Short (England), David Thompson (England) and Barry Venison (England). Players expected to play for The Crew team include Brian Bliss, Paul Caligiuri, Marcelo Carrera, Mike Clark, Thomas Dooley, Ansil Elcock, John Harkes, Matt Napoleon, Jorge Salcedo, Juergen Sommer, Billy Thompson, Brad Friedel and Robert Warzycha, as well as current members of The Crew. The list of players playing in the game is subject to change. Premier Soccer Academies was established to deliver a sound, proven method of education and training for the many talented soccer players throughout the U.S. PSA is structured after professional team training camps abroad and US National Team experiences. It is far from the typical summer soccer scene because of the global expertise that PSA offers to the highly competitive, highly skilled soccer player. In fact, only those gifted players between the ages of 13-18 years old will be invited to participate in one of the most challenging and rewarding opportunities in the youth soccer world. Those attending become members of PSA and can keep in touch with their coaches throughout the year.
