(WOODBRIDGE, VA) Behind a strong start from Jimmy Barthmaier and three RBI from Tyler Moore, the Potomac Nationals held a 6-0 lead after six innings. But the Winston-Salem Dash scored eighth in the eighth to get past Potomac 9-8. Barthmaier threw five shutout innings while Moore blasted his 26th homer of the season for the Nationals. But the Potomac bullpen couldn't hold the lead yielding nine runs in just four innings.

Potomac got the scoring started in the first off Dash starter Nate Jones. The Nationals loaded the bases on a Moore walk with one out for Sean Rooney. who hit a two run single to put the P-Nats up 2-0.

The P-Nats got back on the board in the fourth. Sean Nicol drove Chris Curran in on a triple to increase the lead to 3-0 in favor of Potomac. Then Moore drove in Nicol and Derek Norris, who reached on a hit by pitch, on a double off the right field wall to open up a 5-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Winston-Salem had trouble getting anything started against Barthmaier. He faced the minimum through three innings and scattered three singles over five scoreless innings striking out two.

The Nationals added another in the sixth on a homer from Moore off Dash reliever Jeff Sues. His 26th four-bagger of the year was a long fly ball down the left field line. It gave Potomac a seemingly insurmountable 6-0 lead. It was Moore's 97th RBI of the season.

But Winston-Salem began to chip away in the seventh against Marcos Frias. Drew Garcia drove in Seth Loman on a single with two away and the lead for the P-Nats was cut to 6-1.

The top of the eighth was not one to remember for Potomac. Frias yielded back-to-back singles to start the inning. AJ Morris came on from the pen and was able to strike out Jose Martinez for an out. He walked Jon Gilmore to load the bases. Loman just beat out a potential 4-6-3 double play that scored Greg Paiml to bring Winston-Salem within 6-2. Unfortunately, that was not the only run Paiml scored in the inning.

Ozzie Lewis hit a single that scored Kenny Williams Jr. and the Dash trailed by three runs. Luis Sierra belted another single and the bases were loaded for Drew Garcia. He knocked a single that scored two more Dash and all of the sudden the lead was cut to 6-5. Local product Jason Bour knocked a single that scored Garcia and Sierra and Winston-Salem miraculously took the lead 7-6. Morris was relieved by Pat McCoy who attempted to find the elusive third out. But, a double from Paiml and single from Williams Jr. extended the lead to 9-6.

In all, it was the biggest inning of the year for the Dash and most runs yielded in an inning by Potomac. 12 Dash batters came up with eight scoring on eight hits. Seven of the eight hits were singles. Morris gave up five runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning. Frias in two plus innings gave up three runs.

The P-Nats did get a run back in the bottom half. Bill Rhinehart singled and was driven in on a single by Jamar Walton to make the contest 9-7.

Potomac rallied in the ninth against Brandon Klouse. Francisco Soriano walked to start the inning. He scored on a single by Sean Nicol after a fielding and throwing error on the right-fielder Ozzie Lewis and Potomac trailed just 9-8 with a runner at second and no one out. Derek Norris popped out on a bunt bring up Moore. But he'd strike out. Winston-Salem brought on Hector Santiago to face Bill Rhinehart with the game on the line. Rhinehart grounded back to the pitcher Santiago to end the game.

Potomac left 15 runners on base.
