Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
Hickory, NC - Returning to a normal nine-inning game after Monday?s four and a half innings of baseball, the Kannapolis Intimidators got down early against the Hickory Crawdads and could not claw back enough, losing 7-4 at L.P. Frans Stadium Tuesday night. Kannapolis (3-3, 35-41) and Hickory (3-3, 30-43) have now split the first two games of the series and have split the first six games of the season series.
Kannapolis starter Jose Zazueta allowed three runs in each of the first and second innings and before the Intimidators knew it, they were down 6-0. Kannapolis came back to score two unearned runs in the fifth and Archie Gilbert?s fifth home run of the season put another two runs across the board in the sixth.
But, the Intimidators could not muster any more offense in the final three innings, tallying just a single in each inning. Hickory tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth and got three innings of shutout relief.
Zazueta (1-8) took the loss for the fourth time in his last four starts. He is now 0-7 in 11 starts this season and the team is 2-9 in his 11 starts. He allowed six runs on seven hits in just 4.1 innings, walking four and striking out two. He now has 39 walks and only 35 strikeouts on the year.
Gilbert?s two-run home run was the highlight of the night for the Intimidators offense. John Anderson had his third multi-hit game in six games with the Intimidators. John Shelby had two hits in his first game back after missing three games with a finger injury. Stefan Gartrell added two hits, including a double.
Game three of the four-game series will be back in Kannapolis Wednesday night. Game time is a special 6:05 pm start because, following the game, the movie, Shrek, will be shown on the field.
