Carlton Smith SAL Pitcher of the Week

(Eastlake, OH) - The South Atlantic League announced today that Captains starting pitcher Carlton Smith has been named SAL pitcher of the week for the week of June 18th through June 24th. Smith, a 21 year old right hander out of Piscataway NJ, was 1-0 with an ERA of 0.00. In his only start Smith went 7 no hit innings walking one and striking out four. The only base runner he allowed was a walk in the 3rd inning. He set down the first seven batters he faced prior to the walk and the next 14 batters after the walk. Smith has now won his last two starts. On the season he is 5-5 with an ERA of 5.23.

Smith will be honored during a pre game ceremony at Classic Park on Saturday July 7th. Game time is 7:05pm versus the Hagerstown Suns. Smith is the second Captain to receive a player of the week award this season. Pitcher Jeanmar Gomez was honored as pitcher of the week earlier in the season.

The Captains will return to Classic Park on Saturday July 7th for a six game home stand by hosting Hagerstown and Lakewood. The July 7th game will feature a special Saturday night fireworks extravaganza. For ticket information call 440-954 WINS (9467) or log on to captainsbaseball.com.
