HICKORY, N.C. - The Crawdads beat the Hagerstown Suns, 7-2, Friday night in front of 748 fans at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD.

The 'Dads (1-1) scored early and often, beginning in the third inning with 2B Edwin Garcia driving in DH Ed Koncel from first on a single to left with a throwing error by LF J.P. Ramirez for a 1-0 lead.

The Suns (1-1), struck back in the bottom half of the third, scoring DH Marcus Jones from second on a single from C Sandy Leon. The unearned run was the only tally surrendered by Crawdads starter LHP Robbie Ross (1-0, 0.00) in five innings of work, during which he scattered five hits and struck out four.

3B Matt West broke the game open with a 3-run home run off Hagerstown starter LHP Josh Smoker (0-1, 6.75 ERA) in the fourth with C Vinny DiFazio and LF Cristian Santana on base, making it 4-1.

DiFazio drove in a run of his own, plating Edwin Garcia on an RBI double smacked to left field in the fifth inning, extending Hickory's lead to 5-1.

Hagerstown tried mounting a comeback in the bottom of the seventh against RHP Braden Tullis, but only managed to push one run across on an RBI single by CF Eury Perez with Marcus Jones scoring his second run of the game.

A pair of RBI doubles in the top of the eighth by 1B Michael Ortiz and Koncel extended the Crawdads lead to 7-2.

Ross registered the win for Hickory, while RHP Neil Ramirez, LHP Chad Bell (making his professional debut) and RHP Josh Lueke all dealt scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Smoker was tagged with the loss for Hagerstown.
