
Crabs Can't 'Wright' Ship

Lancaster, PA - Lancaster starting pitcher Matt Wright allowed only one hit and two base-runners to reach in a complete-game effort as the Barnstormers dominated the Blue Crabs 9-0 on Saturday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium in front of 8,176 faithful.
Lancaster got the ball rolling in the first inning as they scored four runs on five hits against Southern Maryland starter Michael Schlact. With two out and runners at first and second, leftfielder Matt Watson laced a single into right field, which scored a runs and gave the Barnstormers a 1-0 lead. Third baseman Iggy Suarez followed up with a two-run single, which preceded another RBI single, this time from shortstop Yaibel Tamayo, to make the score 4-0 Lancaster.
The Barnstormers continued their onslaught with single runs in the second and third innings. In the second, a solo homer from centerfielder Wayne Lydon (10) extended the Barnstormers lead to six, before a RBI single by Tamayo in the third made the count 6-0.
Schlact finished his night by giving up two more in the fourth as a two-run dinger from first baseman Tommy Everidge (26) gave Lancaster an 8-0 lead.
The Barnstormers wrapped up their scoring in the seventh as designated hitter Fernando Seguignol (17) smashed a solo homer to right field to make the final tally 9- 0.
Lancaster had 13 hits on the night including three singles each from second baseman Gilberto Mejia and Tamayo who also drove in two runs. The Barnstormers also got two hits apiece from Lydon and Watson. Lydon went 2-4 with a homer, RBI and two runs scored, while Watson went 2-2 with a double, RBI, and two runs scored.
The only highlight for Southern Maryland came in the second inning where with two out right fielder Ben Harrison hit a ground-rule double just inside the leftfield foul pole for the Blue Crabs only hit of the night. Brian Barton reached first base in the seventh inning on a dropped third strike for Southern Maryland's only other base-runner.
For the game, Wright (6-10) went all nine innings while allowing no runs on one hit. He walked none and struck out a season-high nine batters for the evening in getting the win.
Schalct (6-4) took the loss for Southern Maryland after he allowed eight runs on nine hits in four innings of work.
The Blue Crabs will take on the Barnstormers in game two of their three-game series beginning at 6:00 on Sunday at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Southern Maryland will send righty Ben Moore (0-0, 0.00 ERA), who will be making his Blue Crabs' debut, against southpaw Yunior Novoa (5-4, 4.92 ERA) for Lancaster.
