CPKC Stadium Announces Return of Big 12 Soccer Championships to Kansas City
March 13, 2024 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Kansas City Current News Release
KANSAS CITY - CPKC Stadium, home of the NWSL's Kansas City Current, has been selected as the host site for the Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship in a two-year agreement for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
"This is just the beginning of our vision for CPKC Stadium and the possibilities for events we can host here in Kansas City," said KC Current President Raven Jemison. "It's only fitting that one of the first major events outside of KC Current regular season matches at CPKC Stadium is the Big 12 women's soccer championship. As we empower the next generation of soccer talent, we can't wait for them to experience our elevated purpose-built facilities."
Kansas City hosted the Championship from 2013-2019, while overall the postseason event has been held in the state of Missouri eight times since the Conference's first soccer season in 1996. All tournament matches will be played at the home of the Kansas City Current, a member of the National Women's Soccer League, Oct. 30-Nov. 9, 2024 and Nov. 1-8, 2025. Located in Berkley Riverfront Park in Downtown Kansas City, CPKC Stadium is the first stadium in the world purpose-built for a women's professional sports team.
"The Kansas City Current is showing people around the world what happens when you invest in women's sports and Kansas City," said President of the Kansas City Sports Commission, Kathy Nelson. "Over the years, we've demonstrated how Kansas City rallies around basketball for the Big 12 Conference, and I know our fans are going to show up for soccer in an impressive way this fall."
Three Big 12 soccer alumnae are currently listed on the Current's roster during the 2024 preseason: Adrianna Franch (Oklahoma State), Gabrielle Robinson (West Virginia) and Jordan Silkowitz (Iowa State).
"Hosting the Big 12 soccer championship at CPKC Stadium, a facility made specifically for a women's professional team, is huge as we are dedicated to supporting the growth and advancement of women's sports," said Big 12 Vice President for Women's Basketball & Competition Dayna Scherf. "The Conference has history with Kansas City, and we are excited to add another incredible experience for our student-athletes and fans."
The 2024 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship will consist of 11 matches being contested between October 30, November 2, November 6 and November 9. Expanding to 16 teams for the 2024 season, the top 12 squads will advance to the championship following the conclusion of Big 12 play with the top four seeds receiving a bye into the quarterfinals.
Ticket information will be provided at a later date.
