
Coyotes Win Fourth In A Row

LAREDO, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes (20-26) won their fourth game in a row after beating the Laredo Broncos (22-24) 7-5 Sunday night at Veterans Field.
Eric Montoya (5-2) battled for his fifth win of the season pitching six innings allowing four earned runs on the night. The offense for the Coyotes made up for the runs allowed by Montoya with 12 hits.
The Coyotes started the scoring in the top of the first inning after Robert Matlock hit a fielder's choice to third which allowed Eric Gonzalez to score. Matlock then moved over to third on a single by Daryl Jones. With runners on the corners, Mayobanex Santana hit a ground ball to first which allowed Matlock to score from third to put the score at 2-0. After Jones moved over to second base, Amado German hit an RBI single to center field to score Jones which made the score 3-0.
The Broncos answered back in the bottom half of the first inning with two runs of their own. After back-to-back singles, which put runners at first and second, Dwayne White hit an RBI single to right field to score Steven Wright from second base. Then Matt Lawman scored after Edgard Clemente hit into a double play allowing the run to score which made the score 3-2.
But the Coyotes quickly added to their lead in the top of the second inning. After Alex Entrekin and Angelo Fermin walked on four pitches each, Gary Roche hit an RBI single that bounced over the shortstop and into left field that allowed Entrekin to score from second base to extend the Coyotes' lead to 4-2.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Broncos added a run to cut into the Coyote lead after White hit an RBI single to center field that scored Wright from third to make the score 4-3.
With a one run lead, the Coyotes put up another run in the top of the fourth inning after Gary Roche hit two out single to keep the inning alive. He then stole second base and scored on an RBI single to center by Matlock which extended the lead to 5-3.
The Broncos answered back with a leadoff double by Ben Tinius which started the bottom of the fourth inning. Tinius later came around to score on a fielder's choice by Eric Padilla to cut the Coyotes' lead to one.
But the Coyotes' offense responded again in the top of the fifth inning after Amado German reached on a fielder's choice and later moved to second on a wild pitch. Logan Wood then hit double to right center field that allowed German to score from second which made the score 6-4.
Luany Sanchez put the Broncos closer in the bottom of the sixth inning as he hit his 10th home run of the season which made the score 6-5.
But the Coyotes were looking for some cushion and they got it in the top of the eighth inning. With two outs, Jones reached on an error by shortstop Eric Padilla and then stole second base. Santana then hit a double down the third base line to bring in Jones from second and extend the lead to 7-5.
Julio Castro pitched a perfect ninth inning for his seventh save of the season.
The Coyotes look to keep their winning streak going Monday night at Veterans Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:35 p.m. Miguel Martinez (4-2) will face Andy Schon (4-2) in the middle game of the three game series.
