San Angelo Colts News Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas - Luke Massetti pitched his second complete game of the year, allowing just one earned run, but his team could not get him the runs he needed to prevent him from losing, as the Alexandria Aces edged the San Angelo Colts 2-1 in front of 1,626 at Foster Field.
Ramon Portillo (4-2) opposed Massetti (4-3) for the second time in a week, after the Aces won 3-2 on June 24, as the Alexandria lefty allowed just one run on six hits through six innings for the victory. Three Aces relievers, B.J. Litchfield, Juan Carlos Ovalles, and Wayne Hedden combined to hold the Colts (26-20) to just two hits and three baserunners over the final three frames.
Massetti allowed only five singles, walked just two, and struck out seven, but ended up taking the hard-luck loss.
The Colts got on the board first in the third, with John Anderson leading off with a single. He stole second, and then scored on a one-out single by Andres Rodriguez. But Alexandria (26-19) tied it up in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Selwyn Langaigne, and took a 2-1 lead an inning later, getting a two-out single by Andre Marshall to bring home Rafael Ozuna with an unearned run.
San Angelo got the leadoff man on in the seventh and eighth, but could not advance him past second in either inning, as the Colts only had two runners reach third in the game, which began the second half of the United League season.
Notes: Massetti became the first Colts pitcher to throw a complete game in a loss...It was the first time this season San Angelo lost when holding the opposition to less than three runs. The Colts had been 12-0 to this point...Jose Torres and Aaron Cone saw their on-base streaks end at 39 and 27. Cone got just one at-bat, grounding out as a pinch hitter in the eighth...Wyn Diggs had three hits for the Colts, the fifth time this season that he has had at least three hits.
The Colts continue their series with Alexandria at Foster Field on Monday, June 30. Before the game, the Colts will host their second Youth Clinic of the year, which begins at 4:45 and is sponsored by Wal-Mart and KSAN. Then, the Colts will have their third Sure Win Monday of the year, sponsored by Sherwin Williams. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Advertising, ticket, and group information are available by calling the box office at (325) 942-6587.
