San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas - For the third straight game, a Colts' opponent scored first and never relinquished the lead, as the Edinburg Coyotes took a 5-1 edge in the second and extended the Colts' losing streak to three with a 12-5 win before 2,118 at Foster Field.

The teams traded runs in the first inning, with eerily similar circumstances. In each inning, the first two batters reached, and scored on double plays by the three-hitters. In the second though, the Coyotes took the lead they would not give up. The first two batters, Eric Gonzalez and Patrick Gaylord, singled off Luke Massetti (3-1), and Logan Wood followed with a three-run homer. One out later, Alex Entrekin hit a no-doubt shot to left as well, and the Coyotes had a 5-1 lead.

The Colts got two runs back in the bottom of the second against Miguel Martinez (4-1), including one on a home run by Jason Crosland, who was making his first appearance in a game since June 3.They got to within one in the third on an RBI double by Crosland, but Jose Torres and Robert Mendoza grounded out with Crosland at second.

Edinburg chased Massetti with three runs, including two unearned, in the fifth inning. On the night, San Angelo made five errors, the second time in the homestand the Colts have made at least five miscues in the field. The errors led to six unearned runs, half the Coyotes' output.

San Angelo did have the potential tying run at the plate in the sixth, but Bryan Frichter grounded out to second to end the inning with the bases loaded.

Ryan Mulle relieved Massetti, who went the first 6.2 innings, and went the rest of the way without allowing a run. It was the second straight scoreless outing by the Colts pitching coach since his spot start on Monday to start the homestand. But that and the Colts' 14 hits were not enough to outweigh 12 men left on base and the five errors.

Notes: Tyrone Pendergrass and Andres Rodriguez each extended their streaks of reaching base to 28 consecutive games. They came into play today tied with Danny Bravo of Amarillo and Ryan Fox of Harlingen for the longest ULB streak...Brett Dunlap came in to pinch-hit for Wyn Diggs in the eighth and stayed in to catch, the first pro appearance for the catcher who attended the Colts' open tryout in May.

The Colts continue this nine-game homestand with the second of three games with the Coyotes Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. CT. The Father's Day festivities will be sponsored by Quicksand Golf Course and Foster Communications, with great golf giveaways to dads in the crowd.
