
Coyotes Take Game Two, Extend Playoff Lead

EDINBURG, Texas- The fourth and final playoff spot has gotten much closer for the Edinburg Coyotes after they defeated the Laredo Broncos 8-3 Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Broncos' pitcher Andy Schon (8-5) had the Edinburg Coyotes number heading into Saturday's game. But that changed after he allowed five earned runs off of nine hits through 6 1/3 innings and eventually getting pulled from the game.
Carlos Jan (2-3) picked up his second win for the Coyotes as he went seven stout innings allowing three runs (zero earned) off of three hits while striking out seven.
Coyotes (39-40) are now four games ahead of Laredo (37-46) for the fourth and final playoff spot. The magic number is three games with seven more games left in the season. Coyotes have now won six straight games.
The Coyotes drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning after Angelo Fermin lead off with a double to left field. Gary Roche then reached on a fielder's choice advancing Fermin over to third. Daryl Jones then hit an RBI sacrifice fly to right field bringing in Fermin for a 1-0 lead. Eric Gonzalez then hit an RBI single to right field bringing in Roche for an early 2-0 lead.
But the Laredo would strike back in the top of the fourth as Edgard Clemente doubled to left field. He was later brought in after Dwayne White reached first on an error by the Coyote short stop Fermin. Arnoldo Ponce then hit a two-run homer the left field fence to give the Broncos a 3-2 lead.
Coyotes tied the game in the bottom of the sixth after Amado German hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Mayobanex Santana from third.
Coyotes then rallied in the bottom of the bottom of the seventh when Gonzalez doubled to center field bringing in Daryl Jones from third giving the Coyotes a 4-3 lead. Santana then singled to left to bring in Gonzalez for a 5-3 lead.
Coyotes added three more insurance runs on two hits in the bottom of the eighth inning. Coyotes ended night with 12 hits.
Coyotes will play Game Three of the three-game series against the Broncos in the last home game of the season tomorrow night. First pitch is set for 7:05. It is also a "Buyout Night", meaning free admission for everyone.
