
Broncos Playoff Hopes Slipping Away After loss to Coyotes

Edinburg, TX - The Laredo Broncos could only muster 3 hits offensively as they lost to the Edinburg Coyotes by a score of 8-3 on Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The Broncos continue on their crucial 3 game road trip with the finale of a 3 game series on Sunday. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Coyotes would strike early again in the 1st inning. Angelo Fermin led off the inning with a double. Gary Roche then tried to lay down a sacrifice bunt. Broncos starter Andy Schon got to it and tried getting Fermin at 3rd but, he beat the throw allowing both to be safe. Daryl Jones followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Fermin and moving Roche to 2nd. Then with 2 outs, Eric Gonzalez hit a rbi single scoring Roche and giving Edinburg the 2-0 lead.
The Broncos would get on the scoreboard in the 4th inning. With 1 out Edgard Clemente doubled. Then with 2 outs, Clemente would score on a fielding error by Coyotes short stop Angelo Fermin which allowed Arnoldo Ponce to be safe at 1st. Ivan Reyes followed with a 2 run home run, his 13th of the season. That gave Laredo the 3-2 lead.
The Coyotes would tie the game up in the 6th inning. Mayobanex Santana led off with a single and went to 3rd on a single by Robert Matlock. Amado German then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Santana and tying the game at 3.
Edinburg would retake the lead in the 7th inning. Daryl Jones led off the inning with a single and then went to 2nd on a groundout. Eric Gonzalez then hit a double scoring Jones. That would chase Andy Schon from the game as Rusty Jones came into the game. Mayobanex Santana would greet him with a rbi single scoring Gonzalez. Santana would be thrown out trying to head to 2nd. The score however would be 5-3 in favor of the Coyotes.
Andy Schon ended up going 6 1/3 innings for the Broncos. He gave up 5 runs, on 9 hits, he walked 2, and struck out 3. He was in line for the loss.
The Coyotes would strike again in the 8th inning. Brandon McConnell and Alex Entrekin both drew walks, and moved up to 2nd and 3rd after a sacrifice bunt by Angelo Fermin. Gary Roche then singled in both runners chasing Rusty Jones from the game as Dan Sausville came in. Daryl Jones would reach on a fielding error by Arnoldo Ponce which moved Roche to 3rd. Argelis Nunez then delivered a rbi single scoring Roche and moving Jones to 3rd. That would give Edinburg a 5 lead heading into the 9th inning with the Broncos needing to come back against Luke Prihoda.
Laredo would go 1-2-3 in the 9th inning as they lost for the 2nd straight night to they Coyotes by a score of 8-3.
The Broncos scored 3 runs on 3 hits and committed 2 errors, while the Coyotes scored 8 runs on 12 hits and committed 1 error.
The Broncos now fall to 37-46 on the season. Laredo is now 4 games back of Edinburg for the 4th and final playoff spot. The Broncos will be back in action on Saturday when they play game 2 of the big 3 game series against the Coyotes in Edinburg.
