Coyotes Take Game 1 from Colts

EDINBURG, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes (21-28) played with poise throughout an 8-4 victory over the San Angelo Colts (28-21) Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Coyotes' starting pitcher Aaron Guerra (4-1) picked up his fourth win of the season after giving up only three earned runs on four hits through 6 2/3 innings of play. Logan Williamson (6-3) picked up his third loss. Leading the way offensively for the Coyotes was third baseman MayoBanex Santana who went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI. The Colts were able to jump to an early lead after Andres Rodriguez hit a towering three-run homer over the left field fence to give the Colts 3-0 lead in the top of the first. In the bottom of the frame, Coyotes tied the game after Williamson walked in three runs to put the score at 3-3. In the third, Colts struck again as Aaron Cone hit an RBI double to center field bringing in Rodriguez from third to give the Colts a 4-3 lead.

Coyotes answered back in the bottom of the sixth when Alex Entrekin reached second on an error by the short stop. Angelo Fermin then walked and Eric Gonzalez hit an RBI single to left bringing in Entrekin from third to tie the game at 4. Fermin stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly from Gary Roche to give the Coyotes a 5-4 lead. In the seventh, Santana doubled to center. Amando German reached first on an error by the second baseman which advanced Santana to third. Logan Wood then hit an RBI single to left to score Santana from third to give the Coyotes a 6-4 lead. Entrekin singled to left to score German and Fermin singled to score Wood which gave the Coyotes an 8-4 lead.

Coyotes take on the Colts in Game 2 tomorrow night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05. It's fourth of July so there will be fireworks after the game.
