Coyotes Rally Falls Short

EDINBURG, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes trailed by four runs at one point during Thursday's game against the Amarillo Dillas but rallied to within one run in the bottom of the ninth only to lose 5-4 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Coyotes' pitcher James Mondesir (0-1) made his first start of the season as he went 4 1/3 innings giving up four runs- two earned- on six hits to pick up the loss. Dillas' starting pitcher Ronald Lowe (4-0) pitched a great game for his team going seven strong innings allowing two runs on six hits to pick up his fourth win of the season.

Dillas (33-23) got off to a quick start in the first inning after Jonathan Reynoso doubled to left field. He then came into score after Keith Brachold hit an RBI single to right to give the Dillas a 1-0 edge over the Coyotes (22-32). Dillas struck again in the second after Justin Wenger singled to left that advanced Sam McClain to second after he walked to start the inning off. McClain scored an unearned run from second after a throwing error from Coyotes' second baseman Mayobanex Santana to give the Dillas a 2-0 lead.

Dillas scored again the fourth when Brachold hit into to right field but Coyotes' right fielder Argelis Nunez dropped it to score Douglas from second and the Dillas took a 3-0 lead. In the top of the fifth, Dillas short stop Danny Bravo singled to center to start the inning off. A J Johnson was then hit by a pitch from Mondesir which advanced Bravo to second. Justin Wenger walked which loaded the bases and Douglas drew another walk from Mondesir to bring in Bravo from third to make the score 4-0. But in the bottom of the frame, Coyotes' catcher Eddie Wilson hit his first homerun of the season off a 3-2 pitch from Lowe to put the score at 4-1.

Coyotes' answered again in the bottom of the seventh inning after Eric Gonzalez hit an RBI single up the middle to bring in Wilson from second to cut the lead in half. The Dillas managed to put up another run in the top of the ninth after Bravo hit an RBI double to give the Dillas a 5-2 lead. But the Coyotes didn't have quit on their minds heading into the bottom of the frame when they came within striking distance after Robert Matlock hit an RBI triple that brought in Gonzalez from first. Then Nunez hit an RBI single that brought in Matlock to cut lead to one but Daryl Jones struck out to end the game. Coyotes will take on the Dillas in the Rubber Match tomorrow night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05. Eric Montoya ( ) is expected to take the mound.
