
Broncos lose another heartbreaker

San Angelo, TX-The Laredo Broncos rallied to take a 1 run lead but couldn't hold on to it as they lost to the San Angelo Colts by the score of 8-7 on Thursday in San Angelo. The Broncos continue their 8 game road trip, with the finale of a 3 game set with the San Angelo Colts on Friday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Colts got on the scoreboard in the 1st inning. John Anderson led off with a walk and went to 2nd when Tyrone Pendergrass was hit by a pitch. Then Jose Torres singled to load the bases. Aaron Cone would hit into a 4-6-3 double play which scored Anderson. Andres Rodriguez would fly out to end the threat as San Angelo led 1-0.
The Broncos would tie the game up in the 2nd inning when Luany Sanchez hit a solo home run, his 15th of the season. That would make the score 1-1.
Laredo took the lead in the 3rd inning. With 2 outs Steven Wright doubled. The next batter Arnoldo Ponce would single scoring Wright to give the Broncos the lead 2-1.
The Colts would regain the lead in their half of the 3rd. John Anderson led off the inning with a single. Then Tyrone Pendergrass hit a groundball to Eric Padilla whose flip to 2nd was way offline for an error and allowing both runners to be safe. Jose Torres would then be hit by a pitch to load the bases. Aaron Cone then hit a 2 run single scoring both Anderson and Pendergrass and moving Torres to 3rd. After 1 out, Wyn Diggs would double with Torres scoring on the play. That would make the score 4-2 in favor of San Angelo.
San Angelo would tack on a run in the 5th inning. With one out Aaron Cone and Andres Rodriguez walked. Wyn Diggs then singled to load the bases. Bryan Frichter would then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Cone and making the score 5-2.
The Colts would put another run on the board in the 6th inning. With one out, John Anderson singled and then went to 3rd on a single by Jason Crosland. Jose Torres then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Anderson and giving San Angelo a 6-2 lead.
The Broncos bats would then explode in the 7th inning. Luany Sanchez led off with a solo home run, his 2nd of the game and 16th of the season. Ben Tinius followed that with a single and Ivan Reyes followed with a walk. That would be it for starter Frank James as Ryan Mulle came into the game. Eric Padilla then hit a sac bunt that the 3rd baseman Aaron Cone threw away allowing Tinius to score, Reyes to go to 3rd and Padilla to get to 2nd. Anthony Bennett followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Reyes and moving Padilla to 3rd. Steven Wright would then double scoring Padilla and tying the game. Wright would then move to 3rd on a wild pitch by Mulle with Arnoldo Ponce batting. Ponce then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Wright and giving the Broncos a 7-6 lead.
Santo Hernandez did not have his best stuff, but was in line for the win after his 6 innings of work. He gave up 6 runs 5 of which were earned on 8 hits. He walked 3 batters and struck out 6. Rhett Barber would come into the game in relief.
Barber would pitch a scoreless 7th for the Broncos and David Watkins would come into the game in the 8th inning with 1 out, John Anderson would single. With Jason Crosland batting, Anderson would attempt to steal 2nd but was caught stealing by Luany Sanchez. Crosland would then walk and score on a home run by Jose Torres, his 11th of the season. That gave the Colts a 8-7 lead heading to the 9th.
Chris Weast would come into the game for the save and strike out both Anthony Bennett and Steven Wright. Arnoldo Ponce would then walk, when Dwayne White hit a ball ticketed for center field, but 2nd baseman John Anderson got to it with a backhanded sliding play to get Ponce at 2nd and give the Colts an 8-7 victory.
The Broncos scored 7 runs on 8 hits and committed 1 error, while the Colts scored 8 runs on 10 hits and committed 1 error.
The Broncos fall to .500 with a 28-28 record on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Friday night when they play game 3 of a 3 game set against the San Angelo Colts at 7:05.
