
Coyotes lose third straight

EDINBURG, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes (10-18) have lost their third consecutive game after falling to the Harlingen WhiteWings (12-17) 7-5 Thursday night in front of a crowd of 2,375 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Coyotes' starting pitcher Aaron Guerra picked up his first loss of the season after pitching 6 and 1/3 innings and striking out two batters. Kevin Evoniuk got the win after pitching 5 2/3 innings. Caleb Balebuena got his sixth save of the season for the Wings. Leading the way for WhiteWings offensively was Brian Nichols as he went 3-for-5 with two RBI's. Patrick Gaylord went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI for the Coyotes.
The Coyotes were able to jump on the boards first after Patrick Gaylord hit an RBI single to center field bringing in Eric Gonzalez from second base giving them a 1-0 advantage in the second inning. In the third inning, Coyotes lead-off hitter Angelo Fermin was walked by Evoniuk. He then stole second and advanced all the way home on two errors by the catcher and the centerfielder to extend the lead to two.
After three scoreless innings for the WhiteWings, they were able to cut the lead in half after David Cardona hit an RBI single to center field brining in Brian Nichols from third. The Coyotes stretched the lead in the next inning after Eddie Wilson scored on a sacrifice fly from Gary Roche to give the Coyotes a 3-1 lead.
WhiteWings pulled within one in the fifth when David Fowler hit an RBI single to bring in Ryan Fox from second. In the bottom of the frame, Coyotes center fielder Nick Aranda left the game after injuring his shoulder by running into the catcher on a play at the plate. Bric Steed went in to substitute for him. The WhiteWings grabbed their first lead of the game after a monster seventh inning as they were able to muster up five runs off on five hits giving them a 7-3 lead. Coyotes came within striking distance after scoring two runs off of two hits but the WhiteWings played stout defense in the final two innings to give them their third straight win. The Coyotes take on the WhiteWings tomorrow night at 7:05 in Game 3 of their three-game series. They will hit the road on Saturday to take on the San Angelo Colts in a three-game series.
