
Broncos rally for badly needed win

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos had a 3 run 8th inning to defeat the Alexandria Aces 7-6 on Thursday night at Veterans Field. The Broncos wrap up this short 3 game series against the Aces on Friday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Broncos would get on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Luany Sanchez led off the inning with a solo home run his 5th of the season. The very next batter Santiago Guerrero would go back to back with Sanchez, his 2nd of the season. After one out, Arnoldo Ponce joined the home run party with a solo shot of his own, his 2nd of the season giving the Broncos an early 3-0 lead.
Benny Cepeda started for the Broncos and pitched 2 scoreless innings. Justin Staatz came into the game in the 3rd inning and pitched fine in the 3rd and 4th, but ran into some trouble in the 5th.
Madison Edwards led off the inning with a walk. With one out Blake Butler would single advancing Edwards to 3rd. Then with 2 outs Blake Butler tried to steal 2nd base and the throw by catcher Josh Morrison went into centerfield, allowing Edwards to score and moving Butler to 3rd. Then Selwyn Langaigne walked putting runners on the corners. Robert Matlock would then single scoring Butler and moving Langaigne to 2nd. Nathan Crawford would then come into the game to relieve Staatz. Crawford would walk Palmer Karr Jr. to load the bases. The next batter Luis Guance would also walk scoring Langaigne and tying the game at 3. All 3 runs were charged to Staatz.
The Broncos would regain the lead in the bottom of the 5th inning. With one out Dwayne White singled and went to 2nd when Edgard Clemente was hit by a pitch. Luany Sanchez would then single into right field scoring White from 2nd and giving the Broncos a 4-3 lead.
Crawford would get one out in the 6th inning, when Julian Williams would come into the game to relieve him. Williams would strike out the two men he faced to end the inning.
Williams would come out to start the 7th inning and the first man he face Selwyn Langaigne hit a solo home run his 3rd of the season to tie the game at 4. With two outs in the inning Dan Sausville came into the game and got the man he faced keeping the game tied.
David Wasylak would come into the game for the Broncos in the top of the 8th inning and run into trouble. Madison Edwards walked to start off the inning. Jose Umbria would then try to sacrifice bunt Edwards to 2nd, but Wasylak would try to get Edwards at 2nd throwing the ball into centerfield making everyone safe. Blake Buter would then groundout but advance the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Albert Gonzalez would pinch hit for shortstop Tyler Farrar and single scoring Edwards and moving Umbria to 3rd. After a strike out Robert Matlock would single scoring Umbria making the score 6-4 Aces.
The Broncos would not go down without a fight. In the bottom of the 8th inning with one out Arnoldo Ponce doubled. Then with two outs newly signed Steven Wright hit a ground ball to 3rd baseman Bryan Sabatella who threw it away allowing Ponce to score and Wright to go to 2nd. The very next hitter Eric Padilla hit a 2 run home run, his 1st of the season to give Laredo a 7-6 lead heading into the 9th.
John Smith would come into the game and make it interesting in the 9th inning. Luis Guance walked to start off the inning and went to second on a passed ball. Bryan Sabatella would then sacrifice bunt Guance to 3rd base. Madison Edwards would then be walked to make a double play possible. With a 3-2 count Jose Umbria struck out and Edwards was thrown out trying to steal 2nd base and the Broncos escaped with the 7-6 victory.
The Broncos scored 7 runs on 13 hits and committed 2 errors, while the Aces scored 6 runs on 6 hits and committed 2 errors.
The Broncos move their record back to .500 at 14-14 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Friday night in Laredo for the finale of a 3 game series with the Alexandria Aces at 7:35 at Veterans Field.
