San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Amarillo Dillas scored eight runs in the first two innings, and they coasted the rest of the way for a 13-6 victory over the San Angelo Colts, before a crowd of 2,147 at Foster Field on Thursday night.

The Colts (16-13) made a season-high six errors, including three by third baseman Aaron Cone, and allowed five unearned runs. With the loss, San Angelo fell back to 3.5 games behind first place Amarillo (18-8).

In the first, Logan Williamson (3-2) allowed a leadoff single to Jonathan Reynoso. After Keith Brachold reached on an error by left fielder Jose Torres, Gary Schneidmiller ripped a two-run double to right-center. A throwing error by Williamson prolonged the inning as Andrew Wong delivered an RBI groundout to score Schneidmiller.

In the second inning, after the first two batters singled, Reynoso hit a two-run double to make it 5-0. After one out, Cone made an error allowing Schneidmiller to reach, and Danny Bravo made Williamson pay, drilling a two-run shot over the left-center field wall. Williamson settled down after that, but in his five innings he allowed those eight runs, only five earned though.

Josh Smith (1-2), making a spot start on two days' rest for the Dillas, allowed single runs in each the third and fifth innings, and pitched very well until he tired in the sixth, allowing four more runs. But by then, Bravo had greeted new Colts pitcher Julio Freites, making his San Angelo debut, with his second two-run homer of the night, hitting one from each side of the plate. San Angelo couldn't get any closer than 10-6, as Freites allowed five total runs in two-plus innings.

Jose Torres had two doubles and two runs scored for San Angelo. Andres Rodriguez and Cone also had a pair of hits each for the Colts. Charley Belew had two RBI outs, a sac fly and a groundout, each time bringing home Torres.

Notes: Amarillo improved to 13-0 when it scores first...Tyrone Pendergrass and Andres Rodriguez each extended their streaks of reaching base to 26 consecutive games, keeping pace with Bravo for the longest ULB streak...The Dillas' bullpen allowed no runs and just one hit in the final 4 1/3 innings.

The Colts continue this nine-game homestand with the rubber match against the first-place Dillas at 7:05 p.m. Friday night. The evening will feature one of the most popular giveaways of the year, as Fibermax sponsors a Replica Jersey Giveaway. It will also be Runnels County Community Night, featuring a ceremonial first pitch by Ballinger Mayor Joe Selby.
