Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana-The Edinburg Coyotes avoided being swept after they defeated the Alexandria Aces 3-2 Wednesday night at Bringurst Field. Aaron Guerra (8-1) picked up his eighth win of the year after pitching six and 2/3 innings. He allowed two runs on nine hits and he struck out seven. Amado German gave the Coyotes (29-35) an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning as he hit his third home run of the season. German's home run to deep center field snapped a 30-game home run drought. The Aces (41-25) tied the game at one in the bottom of the third inning when Palmer Karr Jr. hit an RBI single that scored Luis Guance from third.
But the Coyotes answered back. Mayobanex Santana walked to start off the fourth inning which brought Brandon McConnell to the plate. McConnell then hit a single to right field that put runners at first and second with no one out. Patrick Gaylord then hit a single to left field. Karr Jr. then threw the ball over the catcher and Santana took advantage of the error and came in to score the go ahead run which gave the Coyotes a 2-1 lead.
The Aces then matched the Coyotes' run with one of their own. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Andre Marshall hit a leadoff double to right center field. After two quick outs, Eddie Fitzpatrick hit an RBI double that scored Marshall from second which tied the game at 2-2.
Alex Entrekin then hit his third home run of the season in top of the sixth inning. Entrekin hit the first pitch he saw from Ramon Portillo (6-3) over the left field wall which gave the Coyotes a 3-2 lead. Luke Prihoda pitched out of a jam in the bottom of the ninth inning to close out the game for Guerra and the Coyotes. With runners at first and second, Prihoda got Marshall to fly out to right field to end the game. Prihoda picked up his fifth save of the year. The Coyotes and Aces travel to Edinburg to begin a three game series at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Thursday's game has been cancelled because of bad weather due to Hurricane Dolly and the series will resume Friday night. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with Carlos Jan (1-1) facing Robbie Wooley (2-1) in the series opener.
