Coyotes assigned two players

(Fresno, CA) – The Central Valley Coyotes announced today they have been assigned two more players toward their training camp limit of 35. Third year veteran Ricky Leung-Wai and rookie Willie Johnson will join head coach Cree Morris' 2004 roster, as he continues too prepare the team for training camp which is slated to begin March 9.

Johnson, 6-3, 205 lbs., joins the Coyotes after finishing his collegiate career at the University of Nevada-Reno. As a member of the Wolfpack, Johnson posted 22 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns in nine games. Prior to his stint at Nevada-Reno, Johnson spent two seasons with the Rams of Fresno City College, tallying 86 catches for 1,470 yards and 25 touchdowns. Johnson currently holds the record for most career receiving touchdowns and most touchdowns in a single season (14).

Johnson prepped at Edison High School, where he was named all-state in basketball and football. He earned three-time All-North Yosemite League (NYL).

"Willie is a raw athlete," said head coach Cree Morris. "He is a local product of the Central Valley and a very speedy and shifty receiver."

Leung-Wai, 6-2, 290 lbs., recently spent training camp with the Las Vegas Gladiators of the Arena Football League before rejoining the Coyotes franchise. Leung-Wai comes in as the teams all-time sack leader with 16.5, posting 9.5 in 2003, (4th in the af2). He tallied 22 tackles (19 unassisted, 6 assisted), deflected four passes and forced four fumbles in 2003 earning 1st Team All-af2 honors.

"Ricky is an animal coming off the edge on the defensive side of the ball and is very smart on the offensive side," said Morris. "I was really excited to get Ricky back in this organization. He is a tremendous athlete and a great asset to this team."

The Coyotes will hold their second open tryout on February 21st for any athletes who were unable to attend the previous workout. Details on the tryout will be posted on Centralvalleycoyotes.com as soon as they become available.
