Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
(Pawtucket, RI) - Jackie Bradley, Jr. drove in a run and threw out a Durham runner at the plate and Sean Coyle's homer broke a tie game as the Pawtucket Red Sox got just enough offense behind Eduardo Rodriguez in a 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon at McCoy Stadium.
Rodriguez stayed undefeated and earned his third win of the season with six strong innings; he allowed seven hits and struck out six. The lefthander took the mound in the fourth with a one-run lead after Bradley took advantage of an extreme Durham defensive shift.
Quintin Berry, who had walked to lead off the inning, stood at third with two outs. The Bulls moved three infielders onto the first-base side of second base, with second baseman Taylor Motter in shallow right field. Bradley hit a soft grounder toward second and beat the throw, scoring Berry and pushing Pawtucket ahead 1-0.
In the top of the fourth, Durham (13-11) tied the game but ran themselves out of a rally. With the bases loaded and one out, catcher Curt Casali singled to center field. Joey Butler scored from third and Allan Dykstra tried to come in behind him. Bradley, Jr. fired a strike home to retire Dykstra; it was the fourth outfield assist for Bradley and kept the game tied.
In the bottom of the fifth, Sean Coyle crushed a two-out homer to left-center field to push Pawtucket (15-9) ahead for good. Coyle's fourth homer of the season was his first since April 17th.
Jess Todd hurled two scoreless innings before Heath Hembree retired the Bulls in order in the ninth for his third save.
The series concludes tomorrow at McCoy Stadium at 1:05 P.M. Brian Johnson (3-1, 0.86) will take the ball for Pawtucket; Durham will counter with Scott Diamond (2-0, 1.29). Radio coverage on 920 AM (WHJJ) and also streaming online begins at 12:50 P.M.
