Buffalo Silverbacks News Release
Buffalo, NY. ABA Buffalo Silverbacks Modie Cox and Trevor Ruffin were recently selected as two of the top 25 players in 25 years in Western NY by the Basketball Coaches Assocation of NY. The selection was made as part of the organization's 25th anniversary celebration. The Western NY team was selected by a panel of coaches from the BCANY's local chapter, led by Williamsville South Coach Al Monaco. The players were chosen based on their high school careers from 1983 to the present.
Modie Cox attended LaSalle High School and continued his college career at the University of Buffalo. After a few years of international pro ball, Modie returned to Buffalo as the Silverbacks Asst Coach and floor general. Modie averages close to 30 minutes a game while leading the team in assists and steals. His ability to control the tempo of the game has also helped the Silverbacks to a first round home playoff game. Cox recently received the ABA Community Service Award for his contributions to the community as the ambassador of the Sahlen "Do Your Best, Never Quit" youth initiative that teaches children to focus on the effort they apply to a situation rather than the result. In the past year, Modie has made more than 100 appearances and touched the lives of thousands of children.
Trevor Ruffin was a 1988 graduate of Bennett High School who attended the University of Hawaii. The 6'1 point guard played with the Phoenix Suns and Philadelphia 76ers from 1994-1996. Ruffin was known for his instant point production and his ability to provide offense. In his rookie season with the Suns he averaged 29.2 points per 40 minutes of playing time per game. He once scored 32 points in a single NBA game vs the Utah Jazz. As head coach of the Silverbacks, Trevor has led this fast paced, quick scoring team to a 14-10 record. The Buffalo Silverbacks are proud to have two local stars as part of the team with such solid, sound accomplishments not only within the organization, but the community as well.
