WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - On a Thursday night that saw Barack Obama narrowly edge Mitt Romney in the 2012 Raley Field Wobblection, the River Cats used a three-RBI night from Collin Cowgill to clip the Memphis Redbirds, 4-3.

The game began as a pitchers' duel with the Redbirds leading 2-0 after five innings. Fast-forward ahead two innings, however, and the River Cats held a 4-3 lead.

Memphis extended its 2-0, sixth-inning lead with a run-scoring single from Adron Chambers. Cats starter Tyson Ross exited after the sixth, having allowed three runs-two earned-on eight hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Reliever James Simmons-making his first appearance with the River Cats since 2009-held the Redbirds scoreless in the top of the seventh, setting up a potential River Cats rally.

The Cats responded by loading the bases with no outs, putting themselves in a position to break up the shutout. After a Jermaine Mitchell fielder's choice and a Grant Green strikeout, Cowgill came to the plate with the bases loaded, two outs, and his team trailing by three. He came through with a double to right-center field, clearing the bases and tying the game at three. Two batters later, Kila Ka'aihue drove in Cowgill with a single down the first base line, putting the River Cats on top for good, 4-3.

Cowgill finished 2-for-4 with a run, two RBIs and a double, while Ka'aihue went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Simmons recorded his first win with the River Cats since August 5, 2009 when he started at Raley Field against Oklahoma City. Rich Thompson picked up his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

The two teams return to Raley Field for a Toyota Family Value Friday, as well as Zoo Night at 7:05 p.m. Redbirds starter Trevor Rosenthal (0-0, No ERA) will face a River Cats starter that is to be determined.
