IHL 2 Kalamazoo Wings

Countdown to Face-Off

February 2, 2007 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

With heated encounters in the playoffs for the past two seasons, a rivalry has formed between the Kalamazoo Wings and the Rockford IceHogs. Tonight is the third meeting this year and first at Wings Stadium between the teams. The season series is tied at one game apiece, with Kalamazoo defeating Rockford 6-1 in their last battle back on January 6th.

Kalamazoo closes out a three-game homestand this evening. So far, the K-Wings are 1-1-0 during the stretch. Tonight is the first of four straight games for Kalamazoo against Western Conference opponents. On the year, Kalamazoo is 12-4-1 against the west. After tonight, Kalamazoo will hit the road for three straight games starting tomorrow evening at Fort Wayne.

Despite a loss last Saturday to the Flint Generals, Rockford has been red-hot. The IceHogs enter Wings Stadium winners of seven of their last nine games and now find themselves not only six points behind Fort Wayne for the top spot in the Western Conference, but five points behind Kalamazoo for third overall in the league.

Brown Bagging It

Production from the blue-line has been plentiful thanks to defenseman Jeff Brown. Brown, who racked up five points (1 goal, 4 assists) in two games last weekend versus Elmira, has recorded points in three of his last four games.

Finishing Strong

With 67 third period goals this season, the K-Wings are the most prolific scoring team in the league when it comes to the final 20 minutes of play. Kalamazoo has outscored their opponents 67-32 in the third this year; the scoring differential of +24 is the largest margin for the K-Wings.

Leading by Example

Captain Nick Bootland has been finding ways to help the K-Wings offensively. Starting the week on a K-Wings' current high four-game point streak, Bootland has posted seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) during the recent stretch.

K-Wings Heart February

In the past, February has been favorable for the K-Wings. Kalamazoo is 56-32-9 during the shortest month of the year, including 31-14-8 at Wings Stadium. Seven of the K-Wings 13 games in February will be played at home. This month will also feature the 7th Annual Borgess Pink Ice Game on February 14th versus the Elmira Jackals, which coincides with heart month at Borgess. Lifetime, the K-Wings are 3-3-0 on Pink Ice.
