Countdown to Face-Off
Published on October 12, 2006 under International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Tonight in Elmira, the curtain opens on the 2006-07 season. The K-Wings begin the year with two straight games against the Jackals. Kalamazoo holds the lifetime edge over Elmira with a record of 11-7-1; however, the Jackals did skate away with a 3-2 victory in their last encounter on March 17th against the K-Wings.
Starting the season on the road is a familiar situation for the K-Wings. In seven UHL seasons, the K-Wings have never opened up at Wings Stadium. Kalamazoo hits the ice with six returning players from last season's championship squad, including Nick Bootland, Adam Elzinga, Casey Handrahan, Kory Karlander, Nick Toneys and Tyler Willis.
Elmira is looking to start a new chapter in their franchise's history. With the addition of Robbie Nichols as General Manager and Kris Waltze as Head Coach, the Jackals look to return to postseason after a two-year absence. Helping Elmira fulfill their goal are newcomers Scott Drevitch and Frank Littlejohn, who signed with the team in the off season.
