Longtime Detroit Hockey Voice to Headline Hockey Flags Home Opener

(PORT HURON, MICH.) - The 2006-07 Port Huron Flags season opener is slated to be a night full of exciting festivities for fans of all ages, with special guest Karen Newman to sing the national anthem.

Newman enters her fifteenth season as the exclusive anthem singer for the Detroit Red Wings. She recently finished a tour with Detroit native Kid Rock and has also performed with Bob Seger in concert. She is well-known in Michigan for her original single, "Christmas on Woodward Avenue" and has released three albums to date.

Newman will start the game out on the right note, and then join Diabetes Care Education Association President George Czeiszperger to drop the puck for the official beginning of United Hockey League action at McMorran Place Arena.

A new addition to Flags games for 2006-07 includes local radio deejays emceeing the nights. Q107's Brian Black will be on hand on October 14 to keep the fans pumped throughout the night. Over the course of the season, Q107 and WBTI will send on-air personalities to the arena to add to the fans' experience.

Additionally, the Flags front office staff has revamped the popular Chuck-A-Puck promotion to ensure a more exciting time for the participants, with more opportunities to win. Other intermission activities include a new puck shoot-out for a pair of lucky fans, sponsored by Cawood Auto.
