Published on March 17, 2004 under Western Hockey League (WHL) News Release

Calgary, Alberta -- The Bantam Draft lottery was held this morning in the Western Hockey League office in Calgary and a Prince George Cougars' ball was drawn, giving that club the first overall pick in the 2004 WHL Bantam draft. The second selection will be by the Saskatoon Blades, who finished dead last in the league this season with just seven wins.

The last time that the Cougars had the first pick overall was 1993 when they opted for Austrian Martin Hohenberge

Rounding out the top five will be Seattle, Lethbridge and the Regina Pats. The Brandon Wheat Kings, who finished third in the Eastern Division this season with a 28-32-9-3 record will have the sixth overall pick - their highest selection since taking right-winger Eric Fehr fifth overall in 2000.

Eligible players for the draft will be 1989 born players who reside in Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska and several U.S. states.

The Lottery involved the four non-playoff teams from this past season and determined the order of the first four picks in the opening round of the Bantam draft.
