Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - 18 runs wasn't enough for the Kane County Cougars (7-4) to sweep a double header as they split the twin bill with the Winnipeg Goldeyes (4-6) by scores of 17-8 & 5-1 Saturday night from Northwestern Medicine Field in Geneva.
The Cougars tallied 11 unanswered runs in Game 1 after Winnipeg's two-run homer to take a commanding lead. Anfernee Seymour's RBI fielder's choice tied the game at two and then Josh Allen's two-run single gave the Cougars a lead they would never look back from in the second inning. They piled on sending 11 batters to the plate and plating a season-high eight runs in an inning. Jeffrey Baez capped off the frame with a two-run triple. The Cougars even answered back with five runs after Winnipeg found some offense in the fourth and fifth innings. BJ Lopez took advantage of three fifth inning walks with a bases clearing double. When it was all said and done, the Cougars used 15 hits (six for extra bases) to score 17 runs. Galli Cribbs also extending his hitting streak to eight games. The pitching staff did just enough as Andrew Stout and Tom Curtin (2-1) allowed seven runs in the first five innings before Jamal Wade finished the game.
Game Two was a different story as the Cougars only figured out one run of offense off of Christian James (1-0), Nate Antone and Cory Thompson. Winnipeg used a two-run second to pace their offense and doubled the lead on Max Murphy's two-run homer. Vance Worley (1-1) coughed up five runs in seven innings to suffer the loss. The Cougars' Allen drove in the Cougars' only run with an RBI single in the 3rd inning.
The first series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes wraps up Sunday evening in a rubber game. Right-hander Eduard Reyes (1-1, 7.20) will take the mound against the Cougars' left-hander Josh Tols (1-0, 1.80). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. For tickets call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com.
