Prince George Cougars News Release
Prince George, B.C. - Prince George Cougars General Manager Todd Harkins announced today that the team has signed 1998-born forward Brendan Kochanski (Winnipeg, MB) to a Standard WHL Player Agreement.
Kochanski (6'3", 204 pounds) was a free-agent invite to Training Camp in Prince George. He has spent the past two seasons with the Winnipeg Thrashers (MMHL). Last season in 37 games he scored eight goals, added 10 assists and 136 penalty minutes. The previous season he had five goals and five assists along with 40 penalty minutes in 39 games. In 2013-14, Kochanski won a Winnipeg City Midget League championship with the Winnipeg Sharks.
"He's been on our radar for many years now, and from the very first day of Training Camp, Brendan has worked hard and has done everything asked of him. That's why we're very pleased to announce this signing today," said Todd Harkins. "He's a strong skater who goes to the net hard and he'll bring a lot of energy and physicality to our lineup. We're thrilled to welcome Brendan and his family to the Prince George Cougars organization."
With Kochanski in the fold, the Cougars roster now sits at 32: Three goaltenders, 11 defencemen and 18 forwards (with seven players still away at NHL camps). The Cougars will kick off their 2016-17 season tomorrow night in Victoria against the Royals. The puck drops at 7:05 PM from the Save on Foods Memorial Centre.
