Cougars shut out T-Birds

Prince George, BC - The Prince George Cougars shut out the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-0 Saturday night at the CN Centre in Prince George, British Columbia.

The Cougars won both games of the two-game series to start the season. They won 5-2 on Friday night.

The goalies for both teams played well. Prince George goalie Kevin Armstrong (2-0-0-0) stopped all 32 shots he faced to get the shutout. Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard (0-2-0-0) made 32 saves on 34 shots and kept the T-Birds in the game. The Cougars outshot the T-Birds 13-9 in the first period.

Dallas Jackson put the Cougars up 1-0 at 16:50 of the second period when his shot from the left point deflected off two players and past Pickard. Colby Kulhanek had the only assist on the goal.

Prince George outshot the T-Birds 14-13 in the second period.

The Cougars went in front 2-0 at 14:59 of the third period when Alex Poulter scored. Brian Matte and Cody Rainaldi had the assists.

Prince George outshot Seattle 34-32 in the game.

The T-Birds remain on the road for their next two games. They travel to Kennewick on Friday, September 26, to take on the Tri-City Americans at the Toyota Center at 7 p.m. Seattle is in Everett on Saturday, September 27, to take on the Silvertips at Comcast Arena.

The first regular season home game is October 4 at KeyArena against the Spokane Chiefs at 7:05 p.m.

T-Birds season tickets are also currently on sale. Season tickets can be purchased by calling the T- Birds office at 425-869-7825. Purchasing a season ticket will ensure fans can attend both the home opener at the KeyArena on October 4 and the T-Birds first game in their new home, the Kent Events Center.
