Cougars Comeback Falls Short

GENEVA, Ill. - A six-run 9th inning wasn't enough of a comeback for the Kane County Cougars (28-32) as they fell to the Milwaukee Milkmen (39-20) by a score of 12-9 Friday night at Northwestern Medicine Field.

With two outs and down 12-3 in the 9th, the Cougars wouldn't go away. They kept the inning alive with a Jeffrey Baez single and an Anfernee Seymour walk. Then Nick Lovullo and Brandon Chinea connected on RBI hits. Karaviotis collected his third hit of the game before Clemens doubled home two more runs. Nick Santoro brought the Cougars within three runs on his RBI single, but it was the final hit of the game.

Despite the Cougars scoring the first two runs on RBI hits from Karaviotis and Clemens, Milwaukee answered with a three-run 2nd inning. Anibal Sierra homered, Adam Brett Walker II doubled in a run and Christian Correa singled home one to give the Milkmen a 3-2 lead.

The Cougars answered back with Josh Rolette's game-tying single in the 3rd. Then Milwaukee took over.

The Milkmen scored eight unanswered runs, highlighted with a seven-run 6th inning. Walker & David Washington mashed back-to-back homers in that frame.

Ryan Zimmerman (5-4) earned the win with seven innings of three-run baseball. Andrew Stout (1-1) suffered the loss.

The Cougars will take the identity of the Atomic Pork Chops on Saturday hoping to even the series. The Cougars are 1-0 as the Atomic Pork Chops. First pitch Saturday night at Northwestern Medicine Field will be schedule for 6:30 p.m.
