Kane County Cougars News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Held to just three hits, the Kane County Cougars suffered their second straight loss in a 6-0 contest to the Lansing Lugnuts on Thursday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
Lansing (16-5) grabbed an early advantage for the second consecutive ballgame as they picked up a run in the bottom of the second with Chris Hawkins scoring on base hit by Andy Burns. Burns was nearly thrown out at second but got caught in a rundown when Hawkins broke for home and slid around Jin-Ho Shin's tag for the game's first run.
That's the only run the Lugnuts' pitching staff needed. Noah Syndergaard started and dominated for three innings, allowing just one hit and fanning three. Anthony DeSclafani (2-0) worked the next three and also held the Cougars (10-11) to only one single. Danny Mateo had the first two knocks for Kane County.
Scott Alexander (1-1) lasted five frames and surrendered six hits. An RBI single by Markus Brisker brought Burns to the dish in the bottom of the fifth, putting the Lugnuts up by a pair. Jason Mitchell pitched the final three innings and coughed up four runs but just one earned. Only two Cougar runners reached scoring position in the contest as Lane Adams was left on third in the eighth and Justin Trapp stranded at third in the ninth inning.
The Cougars remain on the road Friday morning when they battle the Lugnuts at Cooley Law School Stadium with a 9:35 first pitch. Right-hander Edwin Carl (1-1) starts for the Cougars against southpaw David Rollins (1-0). You can listen to the broadcast on AM 1280 WBIG and www.kccougars.com with Cougars on Deck beginning at 9:20 a.m. The Cougars return home on Wednesday, May 2, to battle the Peoria Chiefs (Chicago Cubs affiliate) at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the Cougars' box office at (630) 232-8811 or by visiting www.kccougars.com.
