September 27, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince George Cougars News Release
PRINCE GEORGE - The Prince George Cougars are thrilled to unveil their upcoming Community Heroes weekend, taking place on Saturday, October 22nd, against the Kamloops Blazers and Sunday, October 23rd, against the Medicine Hat Tigers.
The Community Heroes weekend aims to honour and celebrate the dedicated individuals who selflessly serve our community, including front-line workers, emergency services personnel, victim support advocates, Northern Health professionals, and all those who contribute to the well-being of our region.
The Cougars have partnered with local foundations and businesses to make this weekend one of the most exciting of the season. The Prince George Community Foundation and The Spirit of the North Foundation have been instrumental in planning and organizing the weekend's events. Coastal GasLink, Wood Wheaton, and Canadian Tire have all stepped up to help put on an incredible event while providing tickets for community hero groups to come down and enjoy the games.
The Prince George Cougars will be investing $50,000 to provide seats for our Community Heroes during this special weekend.
Saturday night's game against the Blazers will feature a poignant pre-game ceremony to acknowledge and pay tribute to our Community Heroes. This event is proudly sponsored by Coastal GasLink, whose commitment to our community aligns perfectly with this initiative.
Sunday's game against the Tigers promises a memorable experience, with not only a pre-game ceremony celebrating our Community Heroes but also the launch of the first Mega 50/50 jackpot of the season. Wood Wheaton Supercentre is generously offering a guaranteed jackpot of $50,000. The proceeds from this 50/50 draw will be directed toward the Prince George Community Foundation in support of RCMP Victim Services, the Prince George Firefighters Society, and the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.
We are so excited to be part of Community Heroes weekend this October in support of our local frontline workers. Thank you to Coastal Gaslink, Wood Wheaton, and Canadian Tire for coming on as early sponsors to ensure this weekend is a huge success," said Mindy Stroet, Director of Development, Prince George Community Foundation & Aimee Cassie, CEO, Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.
Adding to the excitement, Sunday's game will feature a pre-game tailgate party, generously sponsored by Canadian Tire. Festivities will kick off at 2:00 pm, creating a fantastic atmosphere for fans to enjoy.
During today's announcement, The Prince George Cougars are challenging the Prince George business community to participate by attending the celebration and purchasing seats for Community Heroes.
And that call is already being answered with a section of the arena being generously donated by Wood Wheaton Supercentre. Businesses wishing to take part in the challenge can contact the Prince George Cougars at [email protected].
Tickets for the Community Heroes weekend are available for purchase now and can be acquired through www.ticketsnorth.com.
Join us in honouring our Community Heroes and enjoying an action-packed weekend of hockey, unity, and support for our beloved Prince George community.
