Prince George Cougars News Release

Prince George, B.C. - In the first two years of the New Ice Age, the Prince George Cougars 50/50 Society has donated over $105,000 towards two local hockey groups. Over $65,000 has been donated to the Cariboo Cougars of the B.C. Major Midget League while over $40,000 has been given to the Prince George Minor Hockey Association.

The Cariboo Cougars and the Prince George Cougars have a strong partnership and the 50/50 draws from the past two seasons have served as a major fundraising resource for the Cariboo Cougars. Proceeds from the 50/50 draws have been used primarily for their annual trip to the Mac's Tournament held in Calgary. In 2014 the Cariboo Cougars were Mac's Tournament champions.

"The great thing about our 50/50 draws is that while one fan leaves each game with a pocket full of cash, local hockey organizations benefit greatly because of these draws," said Prince George Cougars Vice President of Business, Andy Beesley. "This initiative though wouldn't even be close to possible if it weren't for the many hard working parents from the Cariboo Cougars who commit their time at every single one of our games to sell 50/50 tickets to our fans."

Cariboo Cougars Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Sprague adds, "We are incredibly thankful for our strong partnership with the Prince George Cougars and both sides continue to benefit greatly from the other. Having this type of support in place has definitely contributed to our success both on and off the ice while also helping us establish ourselves as a major builder of hockey in the North."

Contributing money towards the Prince George Minor Hockey Association is a no-brainer for the Prince George Cougars 50/50 Society. A majority of the funds donated towards the Prince George Minor Hockey Assocation will be used in the coming months to purchase brand new rep team jerseys that feature the Cougars newest logo.

Andy Beesley adds, "As the number one hockey act in town, we are constantly searching for innovative ways to make our mark and we feel that it's very important that the local rep teams have chosen to keep the 'Cougars' name. It's only fitting that they sport jerseys with the newest logo."

The Prince George Cougars 50/50 Society remains committed to raising funds to help support hockey in the North moving forward. During the past two seasons well over $400,000 has been awarded to 50/50 winners from our home games.
