Spire City Ghost Hounds News Release
FREDERICK, MD - Spire City completed the sweep of Gastonia on Thursday night and have now won four straight against the Honey Hunters.
Dustin Beggs got the ball on Thursday, and Curtis Terry got on the board against him first with an RBI single in the first.
The Ghost Hounds loaded the bases with nobody out in the first. Raudy Read then tied the game up with a sacrifice fly to score Starlin Castro. Jimmy Paredes then homered for the second straight night, going deep to left field, and making it 4-1. It was the eighth of the year for Paredes, and his second as a right-handed batter.
Kole Cottam added another in the third with a solo homer, adding some run support for Beggs. The home run pushed Cottam over the 40 RBI mark, the fourth member of the Ghost Hounds to hit the mark. He joins Leobaldo Cabrera, Craig Dedelow, and Jose Marmolejos.
The Honey Hunters got another run back in the fourth inning when Braxton Davidson went deep to the opposite field to cut the game to 5-3 Spire City.
Dustin Beggs settled in afterwards, retiring the next seven he faced to close his night out. Beggs allowed just three runs (two earned) over six innings on three hits.
Kole Cottam continued his big night with another solo home run to lead off the sixth inning, making it 6-4.
Donald Goodson pitched a 1-2-3 eighth with a pair of strikeouts, and Zac Rosscup rolled a double play ball to end the game, completing the Ghost Hounds first sweep since they swept Lancaster and Lexington in consecutive series in May.
