Morehead City Marlins News Release

Edenton, N.C. - Edenton outfielder and pinch-runner Ryan Brenner stole home in the bottom of the eighth to both give his Steamers a 9-8 lead and break the Steamers' single-season stolen base record. Closer Ethan Cole then entered the game and pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his eleventh save of the season.

The Marlins committed three errors and four detrimental wild pitches defensively but muscled three home runs in the top of the fifth, though, to keep it close. Shortstop Joe Sclafani opened the floodgates and drove in three with his fourth home run of the year. Three batters later, third baseman Grant Clyde hit his second dinger of the summer, and catcher Geoff Perrott blasted his first round-tripper of the 2011 Coastal Plain League season to straightaway center before the inning concluded.

Before returning home to Big Rock Stadium on Thursday, the Marlins travel to Fayetteville to take on the SwampDogs at J. P. Riddle Stadium on Wednesday. Fayetteville was supposed to play at Columbia on Tuesday, but the game was cancelled due to rain. The Marlins drop a half game behind the `Dogs for the second half South division lead with Tuesday night's defeat.
