FOREST CITY, N.C. - The Forest City Owls defeated the Thomasville HiToms, 3-2, in their final meeting of the season on Tuesday night at McNair Field. The Owls improve to 11-9 in the second half and 27-20 overall, while the HiToms fall to 13-8 in the second half and 27-22 overall. The season series ends deadlocked at 6-6. Thomasville now possesses a 1 game lead over the Owls for first place in the West Division standings.

Both sides received solid performances from their starting pitchers. Forest City's Jeremy Fant (Rice) earned his fourth victory of the season. Fant tossed six innings of two-run ball, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out eight batters. Thomasville's Conner Scarborough (Gardner-Webb) went all eight innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on nine hits, recording four strikeouts without a walk. Scarborough was tagged with his fifth loss of the summer. The Owls' Brennan Huelse (Virginia Commonwealth), taking over the closer role for the nicked-up Adam Izokovic (Gardner-Webb), picked up his first save of the season.

Forest City opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs and Justin Britt (Southeastern CC) standing on first base, Dusty Quattlebaum (Gardner-Webb) clubbed a double into the left-center gap, bringing Britt all the way home. An at-bat later, Jordan Betts (Duke) laced a single into right field, scoring Quattlebaum and giving the Owls a 2-0 lead.

The HiToms knotted things up in the top of the fourth inning. Garrett Koster (Elon) crushed a two-run home run over the center field wall to even the score at 2-2. The Owls would score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth, when Betts smacked a two-out double that drove Britt home. The Owls' bullpen tandem of Ryan Tezak (West Virginia) and Huelse held the HiToms scoreless through the last three innings and preserved the 3-2 victory for Forest City.

Betts and Reed Harper (Austin Peay) each had a pair of hits for Forest City. Betts finished with two RBIs, while Britt scored a couple of runs. Brock Hebert (Southeastern Louisiana) went 3-for-5 and stole three bases for Thomasville.

The Owls travel to Martinsville tomorrow to take on the Mustangs for the last time this season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM at Hooker Field.
