Huntsville Stars News Release
Huntsville, AL - The Jackson Generals took advantage of a miscue by the Huntsville Stars defense Thursday night and won the series finale 3-2 at Joe Davis Stadium.
With the Generals leading 1-0 in the top of the sixth and with two outs, Jabari Blash hit a groundball under the legs of Stars shortstop Yadiel Rivera. The error by Rivera allowed Dan Paolini to score and extended Jackson's inning.
The next batter Jordy Lara smoked an rbi double scoring Blash making it 3-0.
Huntsville starter Brent Suter(10-9) was the tough luck loser on a night where he pitched well and didn't get any run support. Suter, went 5.2 innings and allowed four hits on two runs(one earned).
The Stars scored both of their runs late in the game against Jackson starter Victor Sanchez(7-5) who turned in a very impressive start.
At one point of the game, Sanchez had retired fifteen consecutive Stars hitters.
In the bottom of the seventh, Sanchez had his lengthy streak of consecutive hitters retired come to an end. He walked the leadoff man Josh Fellhauer who later scored in the inning on a fielder's choice rbi by Hainley Statia.
In the bottom of the eighth, Rivera lined a two-out double down the right field line to start a rally.
The Generals then went to the bullpen and brought in Trevor Miller. The first pitch Miller threw, Josh Prince smacked an rbi single into left scoring Rivera, cutting the lead to 3-2.
Miller was unfazed as he went on to retire Fellhauer on a groundout to second to end the inning. Miller then recorded a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his fourth save of the season.
Sanchez earned the win for the Generals after pitching 7.2 dominant innings. He allowed four hits on two runs with three strikeouts.
The Stars still won three out of five from the Generals in the series.
The Stars(28-32,74-56) travel to Mobile, Alabama Friday to start a five game series with the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A Affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks at Hank Aaron Stadium. The Stars will have RHP Drew Gagnon(9-6, 3.88) on the mound. Mobile will send RHP Bryan Woodall(0-3, 3.67) to the hill. The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 6:50 CDT on the internet only at wtkiradio.com.
