Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Andrew Cossetti drove in seven runs Thursday, connecting on his fourth home run in as many games to lead the Mussels to an 11-1 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads at Hammond Stadium.
Over the last four games, Cossetti is 8-for-16 with four home runs and 14 RBI (1.654 OPS). The Mussels (6-6) drew a season-high 12 walks in the victory.
Not to be overshadowed, the Fort Myers (6-6) pitching staff tossed a two-hitter in Thursday's lopsided win. Starter Cory Lewis (2-1) struck out six batters over five innings of one-run ball. The only hit he allowed was a solo home run to Hammerheads (7-5) shortstop Harrison Spohn.
Left-hander Samuel Perez entered in the top of the sixth, spinning 2.2 hitless frames on just 30 pitches. Jackson Hicks closed out the win, retiring four of the five batters he faced while striking out two.
Cossetti delivered the keynote in both big innings for the Mighty Mussels. After Hammerheads starter Juan Reynoso (0-2) walked the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, Cossetti pummeled a grand slam over the wall in deep left center to make it 4-0 Fort Myers.
Leading by the same margin in the fifth, an error and two walks loaded the bases for Cossetti again. Cossetti turned on a 2-2 pitch and ripped it down the left field line, clearing the bases to make it 7-1 Fort Myers. Three batters later, Maddux Houghton drove in Cossetti on a ground ball to cap the inning at 8-1.
Houghton drove in another run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh before Fort Myers put two men on in the bottom of the eighth. Pinch hitter Dalton Shuffield drilled a triple to the wall in right center to finish the scoring at 11-1.
The Mussels will look to even the series at 7 p.m. on Friday. RHP Jose Olivares (0-0, 1.80) gets the start for Fort Myers, opposed by RHP Karson Milbrandt (0-1, 7.00) of Jupiter. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on the Mighty Mussels Baseball Network.
