Corning Bulldogs News Release
Corning, NY. Co-owners James R. Schutz and Jeannine DeLine are proud to announce that former high school and college basketball head coach Roger Hover, former youth league coach Dennis Lee and Shutz will lead the ABA Corning Bulldogs in its inaugural season starting in November.
Hover, former head coach for Elmira Free Academy and Corning Community College, comes out of retirement to accept a spot as an assistant coach of the team. With a coaching resume stretching back to 1979, Hover capped his impressive high school career in 1997 by retiring as one of the most decorated coaches in NY State high school basketball history with 10 Sullivan Trail Conference Championships, 4 NY State Section 4 Championships, 2 NY State Class B Final Four appearances, 9 Elmira Christmas tournament championships, 4 Sullivan Trail Conference coach of the year awards and many others. He has similar outstanding success at the college level. Sparked by his love of the game and for Corning, Hover said, "I am very excited to be part of the team and I think this is a wonderful things for the community."
Coach Dennis Lee, former star basketball player from Marcus Whitman High School in Rushville NY will assist also. He has been a volunteer head coach in the youth ranks for 10 years and has a winning record with an emphasis on defense.
James R. Schutz, co-owner and GM, will take the head coaching position in a role of reversals as Hover was his head coach at Corning Community College while Schutz was a starting center on the team. "Me taking the head coaching position was not something that was planned," said Schutz. "When Roger declined the head coaching position for personal reasons, I offered to take it on if he was willing to be one of my assistant coaches. I was ecstatic when Roger accepted. My role is head coach, but this team will run top to bottom with Coach Hover's coaching philosophies, game planning and teaching techniques - and with Dennis' outstanding defensive teaching."
