Normal CornBelters News Release

NORMAL, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, broke a five-game skid with an 9-5 victory over the Florence Freedom on Wednesday night at the Corn Crib.

The Freedom struck first in the second inning when two batters reached on errors followed by a home run to left field by Ryan Rinsky for a quick 3-0 lead.

The CornBelters tallied in their second on a bases-loaded walk to Cam Adams and a fielder's choice by Michael Baca one batter later to slice the deficit to 3-2.

A two-run homer by Sean Hurley that just snuck over the left field fence put the Belters in the lead 4-3 in the third inning.

Florence tied the game in the fourth by loading the bases with nobody out on two walks and a single and scored a run on a double play.

Baca gave the Belters a 5-4 lead on a two-out homer just over the left field wall in the fourth inning.

Normal extended the lead to 6-4 in the fifth frame when Santiago Chrino doubled, went to third on a Derrick Loveless single and scored on a fielder's choice by Andrew Godbold. Chirino and Godbold knocked in RBIs in the sixth to build the advantage to 8-4, and consecutive doubles in the eighth by James Davison Jr. and Chrino set the score at 9-4.

Florence scored an unearned run in the ninth for the final score.

Nick Bozman (6-1) took the win with five innings of three-hit ball, giving up four runs (one earned) with four walks and two strikeouts. Jordan Kraus (7-5) suffered the loss with 4 1/3 innings, giving up six runs (earned) on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

The series continues Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at the Corn Crib as Jacinto Garcia (5-4, 5.42 ERA) starts for the CornBelters while the Freedom counter with Steve Hagen (6-6, 4.62) in a match-up of right-handers.
