Cormier Named to Canada's World Junior Roster

Charlottetown Islanders defenseman Lukas Cormier will suit up for Hockey Canada at the upcoming 2022 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

The 19-year-old from Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, NB has had a remarkable season in Charlottetown with 36 points in 26 games by scoring 13 goals and adding 23 assists. The Isles veteran most recently tied the franchise record for most goals by a defenseman (career) with 50.

Cormier will join fellow QMJHL players Xavier Bourgault (Shawinigan), Mavrik Bourque (Shawinigan), Elliot Desnoyers (Halifax).

Hockey Canada will now shift their training camp to Banff, AB beginning on December 14th. Canada's World Junior team will battle Switzerland in pre-tournament competition on Sunday, December 19th in a game that can be seen on TSN at 8pm ADT. Prior to the tournament, Canada will also face Sweden in exhibition play on Monday, December 20th and Russia on Wednesday, December 22nd.

The 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship begins on Boxing Day with Canada kicking off its tournament schedule against the Czech Republic. In addition to its opening-night match-up, Canada will also play Austria on Dec. 28, Germany on Dec. 29 and Finland on Dec. 31 to wrap up preliminary-round action. All Team Canada games will be played at 7 p.m. ET.
