SAN ANTONIO - The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio recorded two runs on four hits during their Thursday night defeat to the Matamoscas de Midessa. During the loss, Allen Cordoba extended his hitting streak to 12 games.
The Matamoscas de Midessa took an early lead against Flying Chanclas starter Moises Lugo. After striking out the first batter of the game, Devin Foyle lifted a fly ball over the right field wall. His 10th home run of the season put the Flying Chanclas behind 1-0.
The Flying Chanclas took their first lead in the bottom of the second inning. Allen Cordoba led off the inning with a base hit. His single extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Michael Curry followed that with a two-run home run to left field. His 7th long ball of the season made it a 2-1 San Antonio lead.
Midessa responded with a run of their own in the top of the third inning. The Matamoscas loaded the bases with no outs after two singles and a walk. Chase Calabuig, who started the inning with a single, scored on a ground ball double play from Jonah Bride.
The Matamoscas regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Lugo started the inning but was taken out for Sam Williams after walking the first two batters of the inning. Jhonny Santos drew the lead-off walk and Logan Davidson walked as well. As Davidson walked, Santos attempted to steal second base. On the play, Santos advanced to third after a throwing error from Chandler Seagle. Williams retired the first batter he faced but surrendered an RBI single to Collin Theroux. Midessa took a 3-2 lead.
The San Antonio bullpen was terrific once again. Williams tossed two shutout innings while allowing two base hits. Jordan Humphreys pitched two shutout innings. Lastly, Carlos Belen contributed with two scoreless innings of his own.
The Flying Chanclas had the tying run on second base with two outs in the bottom of the nineth. With a full count, Cordoba doubled to left field. After a mound visit, Curry stepped up to the plate. He hit a line drive to right-center field that was tracked down by Jhonny Santos to end the game.
