Albany Firebirds News Release

Albany, N.Y. - The Albany Conquest of arenafootball2 announced today that the players from the East Greenbush Pop Warner Challenger Football League will be playing during halftime of the upcoming June 17, 2006 game at Pepsi Arena's U.S. Army Field. The team also announced that half the proceeds from all 'Challenger League" group sales prior to the game will go directly towards supporting the Challenger League's efforts.

"When we first saw the footage of the Challenger players everyone in the organization knew this was something we wanted to be a part of," said General Manager S. Garen Szablewski. "The Conquest is privileged to have the East Greenbush Pop Warner Challenger Football League playing at our June 17th game and invite all Capital Region sports fans to join us in assisting them in their efforts." Pop Warner Challenger's goal is to provide new opportunities for children with disabilities. The league's founders had one thing in mind when they came up with the idea: that no matter their disability, children of all ages are granted access onto the field. In every game, not one child goes home without scoring a touchdown. During the 2005 season, the league gained the attention of a crew from ESPN. The crew was with the league at the final game at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando and at the end-of-year banquet. The story aired on ESPN and ABC before Superbowl XL and the segment continues to be aired periodically on ESPN's Sports Center.

"It is quite amazing to see the expression on the faces of these kids when they play the game of football," said Rich Grace, father of one of the players Kathleen. "Now, our local pro football team has afforded them the opportunity to play at halftime in front of 5,000 fans. This is going to be one of the most memorable moments in these kids' lives. I hope the Capital Region can come out and support the Conquest on this night, because they are truly a special group of people, doing something great for a special group of kids."

The Albany Conquest are in their fifth anniversary arenafootball2 season with new four-game flex packages currently on sale. Individuals or companies interested in participating in the fundraiser can call the Albany Conquest offices at (518) 487-2244 or by visit www.albanyconquest.com for more information.
