Manchester Wolves News Release
Although you may not see any familiar blue and white Manchester Wolves uniforms this Sunday during ArenaBowl XX between the Orlando Predators and Chicago Rush, the franchise will still be proudly represented thanks to five former Wolves' players partaking in the action starting at 3:00 p.m. (EST) live on NBC-TV.
The Predators (10-6), earned an Arena Football League record seventh appearance with an upsetting 45-28 victory over the (14-3) Dallas Desperados last Sunday. Former Wolves' Greg Krause and Jake Eaton had their hands in the mix; as Krause collected 3.5 total tackles with .5 tackle for a two-yard loss, while Eaton ran for two yards on two snaps as quarterback.
On the season for Orlando Eaton (6'2, 200) currently serves as the backup quarterback, behind former Wolves' star J.J. McKelvey's cousin and former college Heisman Trophy runner-up Joe Hamilton. Eaton has seen spot action in seven regular season games for the Predators, completing 68.5% of his passes (6th in the league) for 434 yards, and eight touchdowns. The Rutland, VT native had a standout 2005 season for the Wolves, throwing for 4,066 yards and a team-record 88 touchdowns (T-3rd in af2) on his way to earning Second Team honors on the American Conference All-af2 team.
Krause (6'4, 290), who played for the Mohegan Wolves in Connecticut in 2003, is in his third year with Orlando and has registered 5.0 total tackles in the 2006 regular season. The Bedford, N.H. native owns Gym USA in Goffstown, N.H. and is a former University of New Hampshire and West High School graduate.
"It's always exciting to play against old teammates, let alone playing against them for the right to be ArenaBowl XX Champions, it's going to be fun," said Krause, before his team's first practice in Las Vegas yesterday. "It shows fans how the af2 helps feed talent to the AFL. Our team alone has ten guys with af2 experience under their belts, the league works."
The opposing Rush of Chicago (7-9) sport one member of the 2005 Wolves team in Nick Myers, while also having two Mohegan Wolves on their roster in Charlie Cook and Matt D'Orazio . The Rush defeated the (10-6) San Jose Sabercats 59-56 last Saturday, to earn their way into the championship game.
Myers (6'3, 285) was promoted off of the practice squad on February 22 of 2006 and has played in four regular season games for the Rush, totaling 4.5 total tackles and one sack. The Michigan State graduate tallied 10.0 total tackles, and two sacks for the Wolves during the 2005 season. Cook (6'0, 275), a former all-af2 selection in 2003 for the Mohegan Wolves, has brought in five touchdowns on offense (two receiving, three rushing), while collecting 8.0 total tackles, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries on defensive for Chicago this season. D'Orazio (6'4, 215), another former member of the Wolves 2003 team, has thrown for 3,552 yards, and 63 touchdowns, while rushing for 200 yards and ten touchdowns as the starting quarterback this season for the Rush.
The Manchester Wolves (4-5) will be on the road this week against the (3-6) Quad City Steamwheelers, when they travel to Moline, IL. The game will kick off at 8:15 p.m. and you can hear all of the action live on WFEA 1370 AM!!!
