Quotes surrounding Bonner's jersey retirement:
"There's a plethora of emotions. I am so excited to be back. I don't know what to feel. It's such a huge honor to even be thought of at this university...it's really hard to get your jersey retired here. It takes a certain type of athlete and a certain type of person, so to think that I've done that...it's just...I don't know the words to explain it. I'm just so proud and so happy to be up there.
"It's possible. It can be done. A little Black girl from Fairfield, Alabama coming to Auburn University and being recognized as a great, it can be done. It's possible. Keep living your dream." - Connecticut Sun forward DeWanna Bonner
"It's huge just to be able to be a part of this. I don't think I realized how big of a deal she was here, all the records and things she accomplished. I knew she was good, but to be a part of this day is super special for her, and I'm just happy I was able to be here." - Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas
"Congratulations DB on your jersey retirement at Auburn University! It has been an honor and true blessing to get to know such a great woman, mother and electrifying player. What you have accomplished as a player at Auburn and the greatness you continue to display in the WNBA has been a pleasure to witness. Your passion, your big-shot making, your resiliency will forever be entrenched in the history of the women's game."- Connecticut Sun General Manager, Darius Taylor
"Congratulations DB, what an honor and so well-deserved! The legacy that you left at Auburn will hang in the rafters forever. I'm so proud of you and the legacy that you are continuing to build, not just on the basketball court, but because of who you are as a person- the way you love, the way you lead and the way you spread joy to those around you. Congratulations my friend, I'm so proud you." - Connecticut Sun Head Coach Stephanie White
"DB, congratulations on getting you jersey retired by the Auburn War Eagles. We spent ten incredible years together, winning two WNBA championships and we loved you every step of the way." - Diana Taurasi (teammate with the Phoenix Mercury from 2009-2019)
