Connecticut Sun Partners with Nike for Game Growers Season Two

November 20, 2020 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Connecticut Sun News Release

Uncasville, CT - The Connecticut Sun and Nike are teaming up for Season Two of Game Growers, a program that invites girls across the country to create the inclusive, meaningful experiences in sport that they deserve. The Game Growers program gives girls in seventh or eighth grade (13+) the opportunity to work in pairs to develop ideas and collaborate with participating WNBA and NBA teams to inspire more girls in their community to play and love sports.

Nike Game Growers is an exclusive opportunity for selected individuals by each participating WNBA or NBA team as Game Growers Co-Captains to develop ideas that could grow sports participation for girls. Game Growers Teammates are 7th and 8th girls, aged 13+, who support the Co-Captains as they develop their ideas.

By age 14, girls are dropping out of sport at twice the rate of boys. According to a 2018 study from the Women's Sports Foundation, nearly 40 percent of girls don't participate in sport, versus 25 percent of boys. Game Growers enables eighth grade girls to share their ideas for how to make sport more fun, starting in their hometown.

Game Growers Timeline

Girls can visit GameGrowers.com to apply as Co-Captains or as Teammates now until Dec. 4, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. PST.

Game Growers participants will be notified by Jan. 15, 2021 and will earn a chance to develop their idea to get more girls playing sports in partnership with a WNBA or NBA team and Nike.

Selected Game Growers Game Plans will be shared on the website in Spring 2021.
